Jim Ellis Audi Atlanta Green Practices

Jim Ellis Audi Atlanta is Committed to Being Green!

With an eye toward the stewardship we all need to undertake to conserve and protect the environment, and inspired by the clean diesel technology available in our TDI vehicles, Jim Ellis Audi Atlanta does quite a lot to support "green" initiatives.

TDI Clean Diesel Technology

The typical diesel-powered vehicle will have 20% - 40% better fuel efficiency than a standard gas-powered vehicle, and will emit 10% - 30% fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

Also, existing infrastructure can be used to support an increase of diesel cars.  This means lower environmental impact along the entire supply chain, from the manufacture of parts, to the existing gasoline pumps, to mechanic's tools. Essentially, clean diesel engines allow the automotive industry to reuse and recycle existing infrastructure, rather than have to buy new ways to support new technology. Plus, there is a long-term concern about of the hazardous waste created by hybrid car batteries

Not to mention, diesel engines can be converted to run on bio-diesel!

The links below will show you our TDIs in stock!

You can check out the sporty Audi A3 TDIs, which get 30 mpg city and 42 mpg highway!  Or the larger, luxurious Audi Q7 TDI SUVs - which get 20 mpg city and 23 mpg highway without compromising towing capacity or torque!

There are two different packages available with the Q7 TDIs.  With the Q7 quattro TDI Premium Plus, you get Navigation, Rear Camera, LED Daytime running lights, Xenon headlights, panorama sunroof, auto dimming mirrors.  In addition to those features, with the Q7 quattro TDI Prestige you get upgraded 20" wheels, Push button Start and the side assist.

Ways Drivers can be Green (even if they aren't driving TDIs!)

1.  Keep your car well maintained

  • Getting a tune-up can improve gas mileage by 4% (and repairing a serious problem like a faulty oxygen sensor can improve mileage by as much as 40%)!  A well-tuned engine delivers the best balance of power and fuel economy and produces the lowest level of emissions.
  • Replacing air filters can improve gas mileage by as much as 10% and provide more power to the engine.
  • Checking the cooling system (thermostats, radiator caps, etc) can reduce emissions and improve efficiency by as much as 1-2 miles per gallon.
  • Changing the oil can increase fuel efficiency of 1 mile per gallon!
  • Checking tire pressure is important because under-inflated tires create rolling resistance, which means it takes more gas for your car to run properly.  The Car Care Council estimates that 2 billion gallons of gas could be saved each year if the tires on all Americans' cars were properly inflated. (For more information about extending the life of your tires, ask your service managers about nitrogen.)
  • Checking the gas cap is another simple and effective way to increase fuel mileage and protect the environment.  The Car Care Council estimates that 17% of the vehicles on the road have loose, damaged or missing gas caps, which means that about 147 million gallons of gas vaporizes every year!

2.  Drive Fewer Miles

  • Combining trips - map out errands and conserve fuel by doing more than one thing per trip
  • Trying alternate commutes - from carpooling to taking MARTA or riding a bike to work, there are many great ways to change up your commute.
  • Observing the Speed limit - On average, every one mph increase over 50 mph reduces your fuel mileage by .1 miles per gallon. That's one mile per gallon less for every 10 mph over the speed limit you drive. Depending on your driving style and how fast you drive, you could waste 20 to 70 cents per gallon.
  • Relaxing - Avoid hard or "jackrabbit" starts and stops. Aggressive driving can reduce your gas mileage by 33 percent on the highway and 5 percent in the city.
  • Reducing excess vehicle weight -  Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your trunk. Each 100 pounds can reduce your economy by 2%
  • Turning off the engine - Don't idle. Idling for just 10 minutes per day can waste as much as 22 gallons per year. At $3.00 a gallon, that's $66 in your pocket.
  • Parking in the shade - By parking in shade or using sun shades on windows, you make it easier on the engine to cool the interior of the car with the air conditioner.
