Audi has once again proved the value in it's brand by dominating the entire podium at Le Mans. Coming in at first and second place, and making history as the first-ever hybrid winner at Le Mans, is the R18 e-tron quattro. Already familiar with the sense of accomplishment that comes with standing at the top are repeat victors: Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer. For readers who don't remember, this team of deft drivers took first place last year as well.
Standing proudly at second were Dindo Capello, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish. And, at third, alongside the more conventional, fuel-powered Audi R18 ultra: Marco Bonanomi, Oliver Jarvis, and Mike Rockenfeller.
"This is no doubt a historic victory for Audi. We were the first to win Le Manse with a direct-injection turbo gasoline engine and the first to be successful with a diesel engine. It's a great result that Audi is now the first brand to have achieved victory with a hybrid vehicle and right on the first run?,"1 says Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport.
The last time Audi dominated the Le Mans podium was two years ago, in 2010. Though, one-two-three finishes for Audi are really even more habitual than that. The four-ringed superstar also boasts sweeping finishes for 2000 Le Mans and 2002 Le Mans.
This year's first-place finish, marks the luxury automaker's eleventh Le Mans victory, overall.
